DARCY
GREEN
is a long-term (and sometimes long-suffering) devotee of Australian Rules Football and queer romance novels. They write queer stories where the peril is mild and the endings happy.
After the Siren is Darcy Green’s upcoming debut novel, coming out soon. It’s a queer romantic comedy about inconvenient attraction, the joys of Australian Rules Football, and finding love in unexpected places.
So, After The Siren. If you’re an AFL fan, you know exactly what I’m talking about. But I thought I’d make a post to explain the title to readers who don’t.
Today, I thought I’d introduce the second protagonist in After the Siren - Jake Cunningham. Some writers talk about how their characters just appear in their brains. I personally always feel more like I’m excavating my characters — it can take me quite a while to get a feel for them. I start with a bit of dialogue, or a scene, and then I gradually work out all the other parts of the character.
Today I’m introducing the first protagonist in After The Siren - Theophilus Bestavros. Theo started his life as a character when I was thinking about what it would be like to have one of those potentially-game-winning, career-defining moments and absolutely stuff it up (I know, cheerful).
Hello, Darcy here! I sat staring at the empty text box for quite a while before I typed that. Then I had to laugh because all I could think of was this scene from Avatar: The Last Airbender. The last time I had a blog was in my LiveJournal days. But, here I am, and I thought I should start by answering some questions about myself, and about my debut novel, After the Siren.
